RECOMMENDATION

 

It is recommended that the City Council adopt a resolution to establish the Stockton Citizens Redistricting Advisory Commission and appoint members of the community to serve on the Commission.

Summary

 

In the year following the Decennial Census, an Advisory Commission is established to develop recommendations to the City Council as to the boundaries of Council Districts.

 

DISCUSSION

 

Background

 

Article II of the City Charter prescribes the process for the Redistricting Advisory Commission.  The Mayor shall appoint to the Commission one member who is a registered voter of the City.  Each Councilmember shall appoint to the Commission one voter registered to vote in the Council District from which the appointing Councilmember was elected.

 

Present Situation

 

At this time five (5) members have been selected and will be appointed for a term to end December 31, 2021.  The recommended Advisory Commission members are:

 

District 1 - Jose Ruiz

District 3 - Xochitl Paderes

District 4 - Diana Lowery

District 5 - Ralph White

Mayor - Jerome Clay

 

Members from Districts 2 and 6 will be appointed at a later date.

 

 

FINANCIAL SUMMARY

 

There is no immediate financial impact to the City for this action.  There may be impacts to City staff time.
