RECOMMENDATION

Summary

The League of California Cities bylaws require each voting member city to designate a voting member and alternate.  The voting member and alternate must be designated by City Council action.  An important aspect of the conference is the Annual Business Meeting at which time the membership considers and takes action on resolutions that establish League policy.  Given their respective experience with the League of California Cities, including membership on legislative bodies, knowledge of legislative issues and prior experience as delegates to the League Conference, it is recommended that City Council designate Vice Mayor Elbert Holman as voting delegate and Councilmember Christina Fugazi as an alternate.

DISCUSSION

Present Situation

The League of California Cities Annual Conference is scheduled for September 12-14, 2018 at the Long Beach Convention Center.  The Annual Business Meeting will be held on Friday, September 14, 2018.

At the Annual Business Meeting, the League of California Cities will take action on resolutions that establish League policy.  The agenda outlining these resolutions is still being finalized.  A completed packet with proposed resolutions will be provided to member cities in August.  Attached for reference is a copy of the correspondence from the League of California Cities requesting designation of voting delegates and outlining voting procedures (Attachment A).

FINANCIAL SUMMARY

This action has no specific financial impact.  However, it is worth noting that sufficient funds have been budgeted for delegates of the City Council to attend the League of California Cities Annual Conference.
