The Measure W Oversight Committee was established April 26, 2005, by City Council Resolution 05-0171 pursuant to the Stockton Safe Neighborhood Gang and Drug Prevention Police/Fire Response Measure Program Guidelines. The Committee is tasked with insuring that monies received from the sales and use tax enacted based on Measure W are being spent in accordance with the requirements outlined in the Measure. The Committee considers oral reports by City staff and other involved persons concerning the use of Measure W monies, reviews the annual audit and adopts an annual report which is presented to the City Council. Member terms are for two years, and members shall serve no more than two terms.

DISCUSSION

Background

There are currently two vacancies on the Measure W Oversight Committee. The City Clerk’s Office conducted a recruitment soliciting applications and by the close of the final recruitment, the Clerk’s Office had received four applications, a sufficient number per Council Policy to fill the two vacancies on the Measure W Committee. The two positions have a term of January 1, 2018, through December 31, 2019.

Present Situation

Mayor Tubbs was provided the applications received by the Clerk’s Office, and after review is recommending for Council ratification the reappointment of Lourdes Jaurigue and Phillip Herrera, to fill two vacancies on the Measure W Committee for terms commencing immediately and ending December 31, 2019.

FINANCIAL SUMMARY

There is no direct fiscal impact with this appointment as the members of this committee receive no remuneration.
