On February 5, 2018, the Council Audit Committee and on February 27, 2018, the City Council received, reviewed and took action to accept the Measure W Public Safety Tax Fund Audit.

DISCUSSION

Measure W, approved by voters on November 2, 2004, authorized Ordinance No. 038-04 CS that provides for an additional one-quarter cent sales tax to be used exclusively in providing police and fire services.  The Measure W Fund is a separate set of accounts in the City financial system used to record revenues received and expenditures incurred related to the ordinance.  The measure approved by voters also requires an annual audit.  The auditors did not report any findings, and the City received an unmodified (clean) opinion on the financial schedule of revenues, expenditures, and changes in fund balance of the Fund for the years ended June 30, 2017 and 2016.
