RECOMMENDATION
Adopt a resolution certifying the names of Jonathan Smith and Shannon Lewis, in respective order, to the position of Fire Battalion Chief, probationary status, effective February 17, 2017.

DISCUSSION
The City Manager has approved the filling of these vacancies created by a reassignment and a promotion within the Fire Department. Fire Chief Erik Newman requests that the names of Jonathan Smith and Shannon Lewis, in respective order, be certified for appointment to the position of Fire Battalion Chief, probationary status, effective February 17, 2017.
AUTHORITY
Rule VII, Section 5(c) of the Civil Service Rules and Regulations for Police and Fire Employees. When an appointing authority desires to fill a promotional vacancy, the Commission shall certify the name at the top of the eligible list for that class, or, in the event of two (2) or more vacancies in one class, they shall certify the same number of names as the number of vacancies.
