These free events showcase various local artists and live performers, offering a vibrant cultural experience for the community and visitors. Artists interested in participating in future events may apply online at stocktonca.gov/arts.
Youth & Adult Sports
This fall brings a wide range of sports opportunities for both youth and adults. Adult Softball and Futsal leagues began the week of August 18, with Adult Basketball and Volleyball seasons starting the week of September 8. In addition, an Adult Mixed Doubles Pickleball Tournament will be held at Grupe Park on September 27.
For youth, our second season of NFL Flag Football begins August 29, and the Youth Volleyball League starts September 6.
After-School and Teen Programs
With schools back in session, community centers have resumed free after-school and teen programs.
After-School Programs (ages 5-12): These programs provide expanded learning opportunities designed to support cognitive, social, physical, and emotional development. Each site offers a balanced mix of academic support, arts and cultural enrichment, recreation, sports, nutrition, and STEM activities. While schedules may vary by location, program structure remains consistent across all centers.
Teen Programs (ages 13-17): These drop-in programs give teens access to structured and unstructured recreation, including basketball, table tennis, video games, computers, and more. They also incorporate skill-building opportunities to support learning and personal growth. Teen programs are offered Monday through Friday at Arnold Rue, Seifert, Stribley, and Van Buskirk Community Centers.
Additionally, we have three upcoming trips scheduled for teens aged 12 - 16 years. On September 18, teens will experience the outdoor thrills of zip lining, aerial obstacle courses, and team-building challenges at the Quarry Park Adventure Park in Rocklin. On October 10, staff will be taking teens on an exploration of the trades industry with tours of IBEW Local 595 - Electrical Trades in Stockton, the Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 442 in Modesto, and the Bricklayers Local 3 in Tracy. These trips aim to provide a behind-the-scenes look into high-demand careers that power and build our communities. Finally, on November 1, staff members will take teens to the Fresno Chaffee Zoo to explore animal exhibits and learn about specific conservation programs. All trips are free and include lunch.
