RECOMMENDATION

 

It is recommended that the City Council adopt a resolution authorizing the appointment of Fernando Duarte to the Community Development Committee for a term commencing immediately and expiring June 30, 2027.

Summary

 

Due to the resignation of Rajan Nathaniel, there is currently a vacancy for the District 1 appointment on the Community Development Committee. Councilmember Padilla was provided with applications for her review and is nominating Fernando Duarte to complete the remaining term as the District 1 appointment.

 

DISCUSSION

 

Background

 

The Community Development Committee is a committee that provides the Council with recommendations on the planning and use of funds that the City receives from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, including Community Development Block Grant, HOME Investment Partnerships Program, and Emergency Solutions Grant funds. As provided for in the Council-adopted Citizen’s Participation Plan, appointments to the Community Development Committee are made by each of the six Councilmembers and the Mayor. Appointments are for four years, except when an appointee is filling the remaining term of a vacated position. The only requirement to serve on the Committee is that the applicant must be a resident of the City of Stockton.
