Summary

In accordance with SMC Section 16.220.040.B.1, Chairperson and Vice Chairperson: “The Board shall elect a chairperson and vice chairperson from among its members. The term of office of the chairperson and vice chairperson shall be for 12 months, or its balance should they be elected to fill a vacancy.” The Board is now asked to make those elections for the 2025 calendar year.

DISCUSSION

Pursuant to the Procedural Rules for Conducting Cultural Heritage Board Meetings, Section 1, the Commission shall elect a Chairperson and a Vice-Chairperson each year (Attachment A).

The following process is used to elect the officers:

1.                     A motion is made by a Board Member to nominate an individual for the position.

2.                     The motion requires a second.

3.                     A vote of the entire Board, including the nominee, is taken.

4.                     The results of the vote will be announced.

The Chairperson is elected first, and the same process is then repeated for the Vice-Chairperson. There is no tenure or experience requirement for a Board Member to serve in either position; however, no person shall serve as Chairperson for more than two consecutive terms. Upon election, the Chairperson will take the seat at the center of the dais at the next scheduled meeting.
