ADOPT AN ORDINANCE PROMOTING HEALTHY COMMUNITIES FOR HEALTHY KIDS

RECOMMENDATION

 

The Legislation and Environmental Committee recommends that the City Council adopt an ordinance amending Title 5 of the Stockton Municipal which promotes healthy communities for healthy kids by establishing default beverages offered with restaurant children’s meals.

SUMMARY

 

The proposed ordinance establishes water and milk as the default beverages to be offered by restaurants with children’s meals.  The intent of the proposed ordinance is to promote healthy meal options for children and their families to build a healthier community by implementing innovative approaches to accomplish these goals.  The frequency and intensity of enforcement activities related to the proposed ordinance will be a function of available staff resources.

 

The Legislation and Environmental Committee considered the proposed ordinance at their May 3, 2016 meeting.  Attached with this agenda item is the presentation given to the Committee at their May 3 meeting as well as letters of support for adoption of the proposed ordinance.
