It is recommended that the City Council adopt a resolution:
1. Authorizing the City Manager to process the naming of the park site located at 3993 Stapleton Drive as "Corazón del Valle Park"
2. Authorizing the City Manager to take other actions which are necessary and appropriate to carry out the purpose and intent of this Resolution.

Summary
This staff report presents a recommendation for naming the new park site located at 3993 Stapleton Drive, currently referred to as Cannery Park. The naming process followed the City's Naming of City Facilities, Parks, and Property Directive 15.02 (Attachment A - Naming of Facilities Policy). Public engagement resulted in 10 complete applications, and the Naming Committee met to review submissions and finalize its selection. The recommended name honors the cultural heritage of the surrounding community. Approving this name will enhance community identity, facilitate wayfinding, and support public engagement with this new space.
DISCUSSION
Background
The new park site at 3993 Stapleton Drive requires an official name to facilitate signage, marketing, and community engagement. The process for naming this park adhered to the City's Naming of City Facilities, Parks, and Property Directive 15.02 (Directive), which establishes guidelines and criteria for naming public assets (Attachment A - Naming of Facilities Policy).
The City engaged the community to establish a nomination list. The nomination period was open from November 18, 2025 to January 20, 2026, during which 10 complete applications were received. The Naming Committee convened on September 2, 2026 to review submissions and finalize its recommendation.
Based on the criteria and community feedback, the following name is recommended for the park site located at 3993 Stapleton Drive: "Corazón del Valle Park." The name honors the Mexican and Mexican American communities whose work and traditions helped shape the Central Valley, and dedicates the space to family, heritage, and community pride. The name is not that of an individual, group, or entity, and therefore, the Directive's criteria regarding length of service, financial contribution, and letters of support from community organizations do not apply.
Present Situation
The park site at 3993 Stapleton Drive is being developed and requires a formal name for signage, directories, and promotional materials.
