body

Summary

The proposed Ordinance recognizes City Hall as a polling location and codifies it into the Stockton Municipal Code existing Chapter 2.28 - Politics in City Hall.

DISCUSSION

Background

For the past eight years, City Hall has served as a polling location assisting the San Joaquin County Registrar of Voters canvass of elections, accepting ballots through an onsite drop box.

The current Stockton Municipal Code Chapter 2.28 - Politics in City Hall (Attachment A - SMC Chapter 2.28) was adopted prior to City Hall becoming a polling location and needs update.

Present Situation

Stockton Municipal Code Chapter 2.28 - Politics in City Hall is an appropriate chapter to include additional information recognizing City Hall as a polling location and ensure awareness of State of California Election Code prohibitions related to Electioneering.  These changes have been added in the attached redline (Attachment B - Proposed Ordinance - redline) Staff recommends that the Committee review and forward a recommendation to Council to adopt to the proposed Ordinance.
