DISCUSSION

Background

The Stockton Arts Commission (SAC) is a seven-member board, including one Youth Arts Commissioner, appointed by the Mayor with the approval of the City Council for four-year terms, as established in Stockton Municipal Code Section 2.94.040.

To recruit new commissioners, City staff conducted outreach and accepted applications on a continuous basis throughout 2025. A nominating committee composed of current SAC commissioners reviewed applications and conducted interviews with prospective candidates on January 5, 2026.

Present Situation

After review and deliberation, the nominating committee recommended Amelia Lewis and Leonel Martinez to fill the current vacancies on the Stockton Arts Commission. Both candidates demonstrated a strong interest in supporting arts and cultural initiatives within Stockton and contributing to the mission of the Commission.

Pending Council approval, Amelia Lewis and Leonel Martinez will serve as full voting members of the Stockton Arts Commission.

FINANCIAL SUMMARY

The Stockton Arts Commission receives no remuneration. There is no direct financial impact to the City by taking this action.
