BACKGROUND

 

On February 11, 2026, salary data was presented to the Salary Setting Commission for review.  Following the presentation, the Commissioners requested the following information be presented prior to scheduling a public hearing:

                     Median household income for residents within each comparable agency

                     Base salary projections reflecting 5%, 10%, 15%, and 20% increases 

                     The number of council members serving in each agency

                     Identification of each agency as a Charter City or General Law City

                     Cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) information for comparable cities, where applicable

                     Removal of the City of Bakersfield from the salary survey

                     Language pertaining to General Law City compensation limits

                     Role of the City Council (Charter of the City of Stockton, Article IV)  

                     Financial information on how Council salaries are funded and impact on taxpayers

 

Additionally, the Commission requested that compensation data for the following cities be added for review:

                     Sacramento

                     Oakland

                     San Jose

The requested data is reflected in attachments A through C.

SUMMARY
