DISCUSSION
Background
Greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) refer to the release of certain gases including key contributors such as carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4), and nitrous oxide (N2O), into the Earth's atmosphere that trap heat, raise global temperatures and contribute to the greenhouse effect. The increase in global warming and climate change can be most attributed to common human activities such as the burning of fossil fuels for energy and transportation.
The purpose of the Climate Action and Adaptation Plan is to develop mitigation and adaptation measures based on the analysis of GHG data compiled into an inventory for a particular period. On August 1, 2025 meeting #1 the consultant reviewed a draft summary level GHG inventory with a baseline of 2022 with the committee and City staff. Based on a county wide data request collecting utility usage conducted by City staff and the consultant, the analysis of the GHG emission data will facilitate the identification of the most impactful sources of emissions and inform the development of reduction targets and strategic measures based on the most notable impacts.
Present Situation
Consultant team, AECOM, along with Fehr & Peers on specific aspects of on-road transportation methodology, will lead the discussion and more in-depth review of the 2022 GHG emissions inventory for the Stockton MSA to inform the committee.
