body

Summary

Hired consultant AECOM has developed a list of suggested GHG reduction actions that have been vetted for feasibility with City staff and collaborating jurisdictions for review by the Climate Action Plan Advisor Committee (CAPAC).

DISCUSSION

Background

The objective of the Comprehensive Climate Action and Adaptation Plan (CCAAP) is to inventory and analyze greenhouse gas emissions data and develop actionable adaptation and mitigation strategies to reduce GHG emissions based on short-term and long-term targets.

Present Situation

AECOM has compiled a list of suggested actions based on analysis of current GHG emissions, past actions, and strategic planning documents and initiatives. This draft list has been preliminarily reviewed across departments with City staff and other collaborating jurisdictions. In this next step of review, the draft list with City department comments will be reviewed with the CAPAC committee for feasibility, additions, and exclusions. After incorporating feedback from the CAPAC committee, this draft list will then be reviewed with the community via workshop for feasibility, additions and exclusions.

The intention of this meeting is not to make any final decisions on the draft list but rather discuss feasibility and gather feedback from the CAPAC’s perspective. City staff and the consultant will then conduct further community workshops prior to finalizing the actions with the CAPAC’s recommendations and priorities.

The CAPAC will meet once monthly throughout the project. Each meeting City staff and AECOM will have updated information for the committee to review, including adaptation measures and a Climate Vulnerability Risk Assessment. In October, City staff and AECOM will make a final decision on which actions to prioritize for the CCAAP.

FINANCIAL SUMMARY

This action will have no direct financial impacts to the City Departments.
