Summary

Potential benefits of the climate action plan’s greenhouse gas reduction actions have been identified through public survey responses and community feedback from workshop participation. Pursuant to the requirements of the EPA for the development of the Comprehensive Climate Action Plan, the City needs to identify 10 potential benefits.

DISCUSSION

Background

City staff, along with the technical consultant and community engagement partner, have gathered community feedback from workshop participation and results from two surveys to identify a list of desired co-benefits. Additionally, the technical consultant has included potential benefits that could be realized through the implementation of the proposed GHG reduction actions. Co-benefit analysis is a required element of the CCAP and will aid in future implementation efforts.

Present Situation

The CAPAC will collaborate to determine which 10 benefits are most likely to be realized by the community through the implementation of the CCAP actions. These benefits are based on community survey responses and workshop feedback and include public health, air quality, environmental, social, cost savings, economy, climate adaptation, capacity building, accessibility, energy security, innovation, environmental health, resource conservation, and safety. The CAPAC will evaluate all the mentioned potential benefits and vote on which are the top 10 to use as a basis for evaluation of the ability of the forthcoming selected GHG mitigation measure to reduce GHG emissions and improve community environmental conditions.

FINANCIAL SUMMARY

This action will have no direct financial impact on the City Departments.
