Summary
Van Buskirk Community Center Gym Ribbon-cutting Event
On Tuesday, January 30, 2024, the Community Services Department hosted the Van Buskirk Community Center Ribbon-cutting Event. Over 100 attendees enjoyed speeches from City officials and dignitaries, basketball activities for the youth, and dance performances from the Elite Diamond & Diamondettes, which followed the ceremony. The Department appreciates the support of the Conway Homes’ Resident Council for participating in the evening and marketing the event to their residents.
Van Buskirk Golf Course Re-use Project
In late December, the City was awarded $7 million from the State’s Prop 68 Grant Program. The scope of our grant application highlighted the construction of new outdoor basketball courts, a new skate park, and a new BMX track with bike trails. Included with each amenity would be new landscaping and lighting. The City is looking to double this funding through the Federal Outdoor Recreation Legacy Program which is a nationally competitive, dollar-for-dollar matching grant program. If awarded it would bring a total of $14 million to this re-use project. The application for this program initially ran through the State, but we have been approved to go through the Federal process in April.
Stockton Arts Nights
On March 12 from 4:00 - 7:00 PM, the Stockton Arts Commission will be hosting their first quarterly Stockton Arts Night at the City’s Civic Auditorium. Art Night events are free and offer an exciting opportunity for varied local artists and live performers to share their work with the Community and visitors to Stockton. The application period for the March event has passed, but the Commission will be accepting artist applications for the June event starting in April. March’s event will showcase 15 artists and 3 performers.
Adult Softball and Kickball Spring Season
Registration is now open through March 3, 2024, for the spring seasons of Adult Kickball and Adult Softball, which begins play on March 18. Adult Softball offers opportunities for multiple Men’s & Women’s Slow-pitch, Co-Ed, and Fast-pitch Leagues. The cost to participate is $445 for slow-pitch teams and $490 for fast-pitch teams. For our Adult Kickball Leagues, co-ed teams are comprised of a minimum of 8 players and play $184 for the season. Games for both offerings are at Louis Park Softball Complex.
Spring Day Camps
We are currently accepting registration for our Spring Day Camps which will be offered March 18-22 & March 25-29, for youth on school break. Our seasonal camps operate from 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM daily for $80 per child per week and $60 per sibling per week. The department does offer 25% scholarships to those who inquire when registering at one of our community centers. Spring-time activities and games will be focused around our two weekly themes: Blossom Bash and Tree-mendous-ness Fun.
