RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the Stockton Arts Commission approve a motion to the recommended Stockton Arts Night Artist Displays and Live Performances to participate in the 2024 Stockton Art Nights.

On August 7, 2023, the Arts Commission appointed Justin Grant, Aisha Abercrombie, Orlando Molina and Irie Woods to the Quarterly Art exhibit ad hoc committee. The ad hoc committee is researching and discussing the direction for the quarterly art exhibits that will be hosted at the Civic Auditorium. They will bring their findings to the full commission as appropriate.
On September 6, 2023, the Quarterly Art Exhibit ad hoc committee met to discuss the upcoming quarterly art exhibits. At this meeting, this created a name for these exhibits “Stockton Art Nights” and developed guidelines and applications for artist and live performers which was presented to the full commission on October 2, 2023.
The Stockton Arts Commission (SAC) announced the opportunity for artists and live performers to apply to participate in the 2024 Stockton Art Nights on December 19, 2023, with 17 artist display applications and 9 live performance applications submittals. Staff reviewed all applications for eligibility, completeness, and appropriateness.17 artist display applications and 5 live performance applications were determined to be complete, met eligibility requirements and deemed appropriate and were advanced to the Stockton Art Nights ad hoc committee. The ad hoc committee is proposing that 15 artist display application and 3 live performance application recommendations for the March 12, 2024, Stockton Art Night and open the recruitment for Artist Display and Live Performance applications to be ongoing with the following deadlines for each event.
• April 12, 2024, at 5:00pm for June 4, 2024, event.
• June 28, 2024, at 5:00pm for September 10, 2024, event.
• November 4, 2024, at 5:00pm for December 10, 2024, event.
A list of recommended artist(s) and performers can be found in Attachment A. The 15 recommended artists are offering a combination of the following various art mediums including, acrylic painting, ceramic, crochet, digital media, oil-based painting, and mixed media. and performance types. The 3 recommended performers are offering a combination of the following spoken word, martial arts, poetry, and spoken word monologue.
Upon approval of the recommendation, staff will contact the selections of the Commission and begin coordination the March 12, 2024, Stockton Art Night and open the application with specific cutoffs for each event.
