Summary

At the March 19, 2024, City Council Meeting, Councilmember Blower requested that an item removing Motecuzoma Sanchez from all Boards and Commission on which he is currently serving be agendized.

DISCUSSION

Background

Council Policy 3.04 provides the process for removing a member from Boards, Committees, and Commissions. Council is allowed to remove members following discussion and majority vote for any reason including, but not limited to, conduct unbecoming a public official, violating the City's conflict of interest ordinance or failing to comply with statutory requirements such as the filing requirements under the Political Reform Act.

Present Situation

Currently, Motecuzoma Sanchez is serving on the Salary Setting Commission and the Charter Review Advisory Commission. His term on the Strong Communities Advisory Committee ended on January 31, 2024.

Removal from the salary setting commission is governed by Charter section 1911. Salary setting commissioners may only be removed by the Civil Service Commission consistent with that charter section. As such, Council may only consider removing Mr. Sanchez from the Charter Review Commission.

The Office of the City Clerk notified Motecuzoma Sanchez that this item will be heard at the Council Meeting of April 2, 2024.

FINANCIAL SUMMARY

There is no financial impact to the General Fund in making this removal.
